What calms you down?
These are things in life which you don't do with an intention to help calm you down, yet they have a calming effect on you. For example I water my plants and it is very calming to me. Someone mentioned weaving or crocheting is very calming for them. Please share your thoughts.

Yoga, crafting. Crafting being essentially as close to meditating as I will ever get as citizen of USA.

Bury myself into an
interesting book. Emerge hours later, with some good reads and hopefully
feeling a little lighter.Escape to the
rooftop with my camera. See the world through the lenses. Sink in to every tiny
detail in the nature. If it’s night, stargazing is my job ;) Listen to music loud. Dance around. Sing along. Loudly.
Badly. Off-key. Whatever I like. Mute out the world.

Wow.. interesting ones, especially the stargazing :)

Love stargazing! Get a comfy chair, some binoculars and just look at the beautiful universe above.

Dirt fishing... otherwise known as metal detecting, the activity is a cross between fishing and golf, you get to visit
locations you normally wouldn't go, swing a stick around, dig holes with
something a bit better than a golf club and hopefully bring home
something cool.

That is so interesting.. :), Did you find anything interesting that you can share while Dirt fishing?

These days... that'd have to be phenibut, picamilon, L-theanine, damiana, and n-acetyl l-tyrosine. I don't take any of those very often. I figure calm is for people who have fewer demands on their schedule. :)
Even when I seem calm on the outside... my brain is usually still doing way too many things at once. It's cool, though... I'm still zen about the intensity of life. One day, external factors might settle down, but I'll never stop having way too many interests to clog up any potential "relax" time.

I understand what you mean. That's why In the description I said
"you don't do with an intention to help calm you down, yet they have a calming effect on you"
For me calming had not always meant like peace or something :).
Appreciate your honest response. Thank you.

Staring at the very active bird feeder. Jays, gold finches, squirrels, squirrels, squirrels - hey! a rosy breasted grosbeak!
Beading, drawing new zentangle patterns. Looking through the colorful fabrics at Vogue Fabrics. Plucking weeks. A walk in the woods.
Southern Comfort. Hot chocolate. Chocolate. Pie. Stouffer's macaroni and cheese.

Wow... that's a whole lot of calm :). Thank you for sharing.

Hi Tarun - a bath really relaxes me and helps get rid of headaches and some stress too. Being outside is calming. Being in the sun! Even playing with my kitties. Doing artwork - painting with music on in the background - all relaxing and enjoyable.

Listening to music, travelling and sightseeing... TBH, music is my drug, I'd die without it :O
Reply 6 years ago
Wow.. Music is my calming drug too, especially Ghazals by Jagjeet Singh. Long drive also calms me.

My grandfather used to listen to Ghazals, my mom's into old-classic Bengali songs, my dad listens to Arabic, Hindi songs and he's a huge fan of 60's and 70's bands and songs... me and my sister took a little from everyone. Well, recently we've become fans of a Korean band named 'T-ara', music makes me crazy :p
But I love pop, pop-rock and rock songs the most :D
Reply 6 years ago
Haha, that sounds good!
Reply 6 years ago
Wow... quite versatile. I feel when you fall in love with music ... type of music does not really matter. From Ghazals to hard rock, there is always more than one that I can call a favorite :D
Reply 6 years ago
So true! my friends think it's creepy :p

Those who don't have the versatility , they share plain vanilla :).

Hmmm , housework . . . is a means to put me in the mood to relax, and for me is relaxing. I often find myself doing what most people consider work as a way to relax. For instance, I love to iron while, I listen to music or watch a movie; I am very active and sitting still is not relaxing for me. I know it sounds weird. Instructables has been my outlet to relax and find enjoyment in my life. The best part are the options because of the variety. Most of the time I need to be in a certain mood to craft and create. I always have a few projects to embroidery or hand sew ,when I need to sit down and relax. Sometimes I will go for a walk or a drive in the country, especially in the spring when the weather is warm. Life is grand.

I don't think it sounds weird at all, I'm the same way :D I can't just sit and watch tv or listen to music without doing anything else, I find it boring...I very rarely do that. I usually need to do more than one thing at once :)

Thank you sunshiine :), it amazes me to know that all the wonderful people who commented here have one thing common, they enjoy working home and doing DIY. And I could not agree more about "sitting is not relaxing", it is so true for me too.
