You could potentially modify it to listen on other frequencies.Such as those that carry cell phone transmissions..( not recommending this seeing as how it is illegal. Merely throwing the idea out there in case you have a controlled lab in which you would like to experiment) This is why all of the newer scanners come with epoxy coded boards. So that the components can't be swapped out.

Turn it on and listen to it. It's got almost nothing in it that is useful for robots, computers, tesla coils, wii, wifi, iphones or perpetual motion machines. Maybe you could learn to retune it to another band.
