What did you GIVE ? Answered

There are a couple threads on "what did you get?" Here's one to talk about any gifts you managed to come up with that were particularly clever, cool, or well-received. I suppose the one I put the most effort into was the "day-runner planner" re-purposed into a sewing measurement and craft data book for my wife. I threw away the traditional calendar pages and added some downloaded and self-made special purpose pages...

I gave an official Carbine action red ryder BB gun to my 27 year old brother. lol, he loves the movie "A Christmas Story" and growing up he wanted the gun... so being older now (he's also a police officer, so the fact that he carries a real gun made it funnier....well to me anyways) I got it for him

For my brother, a Presidential Dollar Booklet, which he absolutely loves! A new cd of my sister's favorite artist. A Pocket Guide to Wine, for my wine loving parents. Apple corer (tradition to get my mom a new kitchen gadget, there is not one she doesn't have) handyman magazine, as well as MAD magazine. I like this thread westfw. It seems as though the spirit of Christmas is all buying presents, and the meaning has gone down the drain. It is sad, hopefully one day everyone can see that Christmas is not always about the presents. There is family, friends, giving, politeness all around, and wishing others a wonderful holiday, and a new year.

The celebration, in it's present state was created for the merchants mostly. There is tremendous evidence for the birth to have actually taken place closer to the time of Sept. around the harvest time, the logical time to tax the people, and also 1/2 year after Pesach (Passover). The mountains of Israel get very cold and become snow topped shorty after harvest, so no shepherds would be allowed to take sheep outside to graze during Dec. etc. etc. *nudge, nudge, wink, wink say no more* ;-)

Yep, well said. I haven't celebrated christmas for 8 years or so. If you guys study the origins of Christmas you will find that the observance of it is not Christian, nor did Jesus tell us to celebrate his birthday-according to the Bible the day of one's death is supposedly better than birth- and birthday's come from pagan practices. There's a film "Christmas Unwrapped" search for it on google video or youtube if you want some more info and countless books and articles on the real meaning of it. P.S. don't mean to offend, just giving my 2 cents, take it or leave it :) thanks

It was actually looked down on by the church originally, but the Sun-god worshiper / ruler converted to "christianity" would not hear of it, so he picked what was currently thought to be the winter solstice for the date. One of the holy days for worshiping the sun.

Scientifically, one can not prove the non-existence of of anything, one can only believe that something did not exist, or believe there is not enough evidence to support it. Evidence, proves the existence of something not it non-existence. ;-)

You can't even prove existance. Otherwise, you prove the non-existance of non-existance, thus proving existance and disproving the non-existance theorem! Yay complications !

T'is true, science is about evidence, rather then proofs. Still evidence for existence exists, and plenty of it, but evidence for non-existence is a bit of a oxymoron. It would be much like evidence that I don't exist as a human, but as a very clever AI program. Evidence can be gathered for the existence of a condition, but only lack of evidence can be cited for the absence of a condition.

Good idea getting your brother the Presidential Dollar Booklet, you told me he loves coins. Is the booklet from Littleton, with the years 2007-2016?

I gave my brother an iTunes card. I spent all my money on it, so I couldn't get any gifts for the rest of my family. At least it was an easy gift... I have not decided if he is going to get another for his birthday or not yet...

I could have made something, but someone would have found out. All of the tools and things are in the building, and since I never spend any time out there, questions would have come up about it.

No offense. They would probably rather have stuff I make, throw in the lack of privacy with the fact that my mother has to make sure that I am safe all the time... I guess when you live with a paranoid nurse...

Warning, off subject post: try not to pick up that habit. It took me over 2 years of horror to quit it. It is not an addiction that is worth it.

"Silver and gold, I have none, but what I do have, I will give".....I had some time here and there, to advise, share, learn, grow and help grow, here and elsewhere. I have committed my time to straightening out the mess my wife made of our finances, and I have been appointed "power of attorney" in order to get my Mom's finances back to sanity. What I give, no one can hold in their hand, but then, it won't rust, corrode, or short out in bad weather, either. It may pale in contrast in the eyes of some, but to the ones on the receiving end, it is appreciated at least.
