What small replacements (preferably cell battteries) are there for two AA batteries? Answered

i would like to replace two AA batteries with a cell battery or something smaller -  I have tried with a small 3v cell battery but it doesn't seem to work.  Is this because of the current?  Any tips on alternative power supplies?

Try two 3V Coin Cell batteries in Parallel, that way, you get the same voltage as from the 2 AA and it will last aprox. the same.

if your application was designed to run on AA's, then it was decided that it couldn't run on coin cells.  You have tried the same voltage, but the current is wrong.  Many cordless phones have battery packs at 3.6 volts and are rechargable, you can get them cheap.  There are always triple A batteries, a little less current but you might not need all of it.  There will be trade-offs.

.  Check the voltage of the battery with no load. Should be close to rated voltage.
.  Check battery voltage under load. If it drops more than about 25% from the first reading, the battery is dead or has insufficient ampacity.
.  As a rule of thumb, ampacity is directly related to the size of the battery. If you want more power, you need to use something other than a carbon battery.
