Where can I get an old uesable computer ready to be discarded - Springfield, Va.? Answered

I am a senior citizen and a Army veteran (Vietnam) in the metro DC area and am in need of a functional computer.  Is there anyone out there planning on sending one to the recycle unit?  If so, I could use it! If not a total system of monitor, keyboad and processor, any single component will do to start (e.g., keyboard or processor or monitor).

We build art installations and we get old computers and screens from everywhere, mostly from schools or office buildings that upgrade their systems.

They toss them all out anyways so they hardly ever have problems giving them away to organisations like ours.

Since you are an individual it might be bit harder. Ask around in hackerspaces and art collectives in your area (or goodwill stores), if they have some old stuff they might give it away or sell it for cheap.

Secondhand or thrift stores like Goodwill, Value Village, etc often have a number of older, and likely still functional, computers for very cheap as well as some peripherals (keyboards, mice, etc.)

See if there is a chapter of "Freecycle" in your area. This is just up their area.

Put an add on your local radio station. Many stations have a "trader" thing for wanted and for sale and to give away. Just say your looking for an old system preferably working, that is going to be thrown out. Here a blurb like that is free.
