Where has the banner gone and getting ads instead?
I'm a Pro member and I'm signed in. (signed out and then in again)
The front page banner is all grey and I'm getting ads in the grey box.
Has someone hacked or broken the site?
I have to turn on a banner blocker to stop the ads.

I don't know if it's related, but the icky grey box and the right hand thumbnails are spilling off the side of the white background.

Tandy Leather has a contest coming up and has most likely paid a lot of money to have that banner on the homepage. It isn't because your pro is broken. Instructables does this to the homepage very rarely and the regular "let's make" banner will be back before you know it.

I'm getting random Google ads. in the UK.
Maybe the Tandy campaign is geographically-restricted, but the big grey box filling half your landing page, with a tiny advert lurking to the side, gives a really poor impression to the rest of the world.
Could somebody fix things so that viewers outside the states see something not so ugly and amateurish-looking?

I'm not getting anything for Tandy Leather. I am getting targeted ads for my geo-location, Australia. Have a look at the screen captures.
I paid for Pro membership so I wouldn't get general ads. I understand if a company has sponsored a competition, but I don't think this is the case. At the moment it's not worth paying for Pro membership as what were Pro features are now available to free memberships.

Hmmm. Perhaps Tandy doesn't ship to Australia and therefore the traditional ads are being defaulted into that space? The banner looks like it is designed to fit the Tandy ad that I'm seeing in America.

OK, no problems. It's the first time I've seen this on the site when I'm logged in. I've seen the competition sponsor ads on the banner before, but not the generic advertising when logged in.

The 2 years Pro membership you refer to, has been paid for. Something went wrong with the system when I paid and I didn't get the 2 years. To fix it, I was "given" 2 years Pro membership. The others were for being featured and competitions. I appreciate those free memberships, that's one of the reasons I love instructables.

Ah, that make sense. Thanks for clarifying!
