Where to buy e-ink/e-paper screens? Answered

I want to build a project that could really benefit from epaper.  Is there a source for e-ink displays and driver chips?  This is a relativley new technology and I couldn't find much short of thousands of dollars.

BTW, I'm proficient at electronics, so it's not like I'm looking for some kit to hook up to my arduino or anything :P  I'm looking for the raw stuff.

Hey how did you go finding E-paper sources?

There is this site:

https://www.visionect.com/development_kits

Those are very expensive however.

Another option is Alibaba again

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/flexible-oled_60557805625.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.bVHxpQ

I would be interested in ripping out an
Android phone screen and putting an E-paper in instead if possible.

You can find one at sparkfun http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10150
There is even a tutorial over at bildr.org how to use it with Arduino.

Perhaps you could find a broken (aside from the screen!) kindle, nook or sony e-reader on eBay for a good price.  As for how to drive the screen, that's up to you.  But it'll probably be pretty tricky.
