Dogs normally don't shed in the winter (because they don't need to), but a heater up high can create a 'summer time' effect and they'll shed some of their coat. Some people will also notice that their dogs are scratching more than usual during the winter, and that's also due to the heater used. Heaters tend to dry out the air and much like dry itchy skin that a human could have, a dog can also suffer from this. By using a humidifier you can solve that problem. As far as the shedding is concerned, you'll probably see improvements over time. Walking your dog more often in the cold can also help stop the shedding.
