Why are some projects entered in contests sent in emails and others are not? Answered

I noticed that some of the contest entries are sent in the subscription emails and others (including mine) are not. It seems like this is unfair because the entries not sent in emails do not get as many views causing them to not get as many votes. I would like to know how to get my projects sent in emails too. Thanks.

AFAIK, the Instructables chosen for the subscription newsletter emails are based on website statistics. Out of all the newly published Instructables, only the most popular/viewed ibles are chosen for the newsletter and the selection has nothing to do with contest entries or preferential decisions (which makes this criteria the most fair for everyone). Therefore, there really isn't much you can do to improve your chances of being in the newsletter..

Naturally, if you have a lot of subscribers who are faithful in viewing everything that you publish, then you may get more views than if you have very few subscribers and must rely on members browsing the website. What you publish is also just as important, and not all Instructables will appeal to everyone, but having a good title and main photo can help a lot.

For contests, you can rest assured that views and votes only play a small role, and only do so for helping to determine the finalists. Judges are more focused on reviewing the entries and basing their decisions on the contest criteria, the presentation and the overall appeal of the Instructables. Whether an Instructable entry was featured in a newsletter email or not, really means nothing at the judging stage.

I hope that eases some of your concerns.

I'm not subscribed to any emails, so I can't say for certain, but I would hazard a bet that entries that hit a subscriber email are the featured entries, chosen by staff and the community feature team.
