Why do apple 32pin cables stop working? Answered

I have an iPod from 2009 and it uses 32pin cables. Sometimes it doesn't charge, and when I change to one of the many other cables that I have, it works. I looked in one of them and it has some black, gummy gunk in it. Why does this affect the cables and what can I do to fix it? Should I buy some more cables?
Thanks!

There is no onther answer here. The connection is gummed up with dirt not allowing it to make good contact with your iPod. The gap is a bit too small so cleaning it may not be an option so go with a new cable.

Hmm, why would dirt, grime and gunk cause connection problems?....
Either clean it properly or buy a new cable, really simple the solution here ;)
