Why do some people have bellybuttons that are apparently stuffed with skin, while some people have bellybuttons that are, for the most part, hollow? Answered

This is a question that has been on my mind for around three years. I have a hollow bellybutton, but when I go swimming with my friends I notice that some of them have bellybuttons that appear to be stuffed with skin and are not at the least bit hollow. Why is that?

Thanks in advance.

My stepdad has that, but his is horrible. It looks more like a mutation of his stomach than a hernia.

I don't know but Bill Cosby said "that where the screw goes that holds you bottom end on so don't play around w/ it or else your bottom end will fall off". LOL!

What they have told me it's the way you knot of the imbilical cord. Some doctors do it different then others. This either results in a "innie" or an "outtie" as some people call them. I never checked it myself but it sounds logical somehow...

Yeah, it does sound logical. I came up with this answer myself before doing any research, but I am unsure of it's credibility. Thanks.

I think this is due to how the umbilical cord is cut off. When you are born there is still a stub of umbilical cord sticking out, and the way that stub falls off is probably the reason.

Hmm, that sounds like a reasonable explanation.
