Why is my radio so quiet? Answered

It is a boom box and the volume works perfectly when it's on CD mode. But when it's in radio mode, it's so quiet I can barely hear it. (And I'm not hard of hearing!)

Check the selector switch make sure it is good.

Then check your radio output to your amp input.

Not all Boom Boxes are made the same and yours sounds like it is in four parts and four circuit boards at least.

Power circuit board, Works.

CD circuit board, Works.

Amplifier circuit board, Works.

Radio circuit board picks up signal but not loud, possible causes weak signal, weak preamp, bad connection to amp.

Assuming it worked when you got it I would go with a bad connection from the radio to the amp.

Now if you were using it during a thunder storm when it stopped working you can be sure it is the radio preamp from lightning EMP.

That suggests the system uses 2 different amps. One for the radio and one for CD. So your radio's amp has gown bad.
