Make sure to lay out the pattern pieces so that the nap (the grain of the fabric) will all run the same way when the pieces are assembled. Mismatched nap will cause the finished piece to look and feel "wrong".
Also, don't use stretchy velour. Stretchy velour is a pain to work with.
