I slice, peel and core 1kg cooking apples. Add them to a heavy pan with 4-5tblsp water and the juice of half a lemon then simmer for 15 minutes, or until soft. I then add 1 tbsp caster sugar, about 50g butter (unsalted) and stir them all together with a fork.

Apple sauce will need sugar according to the 'tartness' of the apples. It usually does not have butter added, but Jayefuu's recipe is perfect!
The addition of a little butter at the end, 'lifts' the apple flavour beautifully!
