I am guessing you haven't learned the finer points of cooking yet. Crock pot cooking is cooking for a long time with low heat. The thick crock pot retains the heat and spreads out the heat for a slow even cook. The pot can be earthenware, ceramic, heavy cast iron, etc. A tin can is good for a survival situation just to get something cooked but the thin metal will create hot spots and will burn and stick some of the food at the bottom if you don't keep an eye on it. Controlling an even temperature for the entire cooking period might be tough if you wanted to keep it at a simmer and not boil over. As mentioned by the others, cans may have a lining/coating or use other metals to line or seal the can. You don't want that stuff to melt or burn off to mix with your food.

I believe you have reinvented the pot, and are planning to make a stew

I start to think the same here.

So again: you have a pot and some water with seasoning...

I might be wrong but there people that would call it a soup or brine in a pot.

If you use a galvanised can it will taste accordingly, same for tin cans with a plastic coating on the inside.

There must be a reason someone invented the cooking pot.

In outdoor areas the thing is made from cast iron and called a camp oven as you can cook and bake in it, so I guess it your have the right can you can use it as a cooking pot.
