Buy/build a NiMh charging circuit. If you do not know electronics that well then just buy a USB NiMh charger. Here, let be google that for you. Click the link. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=USB+NiMh+battery+charger

If you are a builder, this little IC, watches the battery temperature controls current and uses the 47 microhenery choke to control (lower the voltage) to your battery just increase R7 to 0.2 ohms to lower the current for an 1800mAH or 1.8AH battery...
The DS2712 is a Maxim product
http://pdfserv.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/DS2711-DS...
you should register with them and ask for two free samples as an instructables writer.... Maxim wants to sell ICs so a free article using their DS2712 is in their interest and may sell thousands and thy will happily send you several parts.

You MUST have a correct voltage charger not just connect to 5 volts.

The type of battery matters as well - At 1.2 volts I guess Nicad or NiMh so heed the link below.
