controlling 100 rgb leds from arduino? Answered

Hey there i got 100 of 5 mm rgb led diodes. so i want to run them as string lights. so can i do it via arduino? if it is possible please tell me how to do it.

Hmmm. well there are multiple ways to controll a lot of leds with microcontrollers. Multiplexing,Charlieplexing, IO-Expanders and Shift-Registers are all things you can take a look at for ways to control.

A quick heads-up tough: 100 rgb leds can consume quite a bit of power together. Example: 100 red leds that say consume 20ma each would together consume 2 whole Ampere when on!! Always remember to do your math on power-consumption.

Look up PWM control or use the FADE example from the library as a base.
Use one Mosfet for each color.
Info on what resistors are needed for the LED as well as how to use a Mosfet on an Arduino can be found online.
