their range is the standard 20 HZ - 20 KHZ we can hear (but maybe it prforms less well above few KHZ) if you manage to make alterating magnetic field that the head can catch then why not ?

. It's considerably higher than that. "generally from 40 to 150 kHz" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tape_bias
