If you can get it hooked up to the internet and run Windows update or maybe get the driver update programs by going to the Dell site and burn a CD for it.

If you click on Start, you should see a Windows Update icon in the list. Click it and follow the prompts as it connects to the internet. Or if you have the IE browser open to the internet, click on Tools, Windows update. It may take a while to download all the files. Do not attempt on a dial-up connection. It will probably take multiple program updates to get it to the current service pack and security updates level.

if the flash drives are new, and the computers are older models (2002) probably the usb drivers are usb 1.1 and the flash drives are usb 2.0. you should upgrade it

If these are not built in ports to the motherboard, check the wiring that may have the pins confused on the motherboard. Some motherboards require the correct USB drivers or patch, especially if you built the PC yourself with a no-name brand and possibly if it is an AMD based machine. Make sure you are up to the latest service pack and updates for XP. If none of your USB ports ever worked, you may be looking at a defective motherboard or missing drivers. Also check the BIOS at powerup to make sure the USB ports are enabled.
