12VAC rectified through a full wave bridge delivers a 16.9VDC peak, which
is enough to charge a a12VDC battery with the rate of charge depending
on the KVA rating of your transformer.

Does this Help you ?

This is a circuit schematic.
Do you know what AC and DC is ?
AC <=> Alternating Current, DC <=> Direct Current
Current is the flow of electricity and for most conditions needs two wires.. A

no need to update transformer, as iceng mentioned, you will need to add ak rectifier circuit at the output of the transformer. This is needed so that a constant not oscillating voltage charges gradually the car battery.

Without physically re-winding the transformer it isn't possible Better buy a dedicated batter charger for a car.
