electronic "key" Answered

One more forum post and then I swear I'll take a break!!!

I would like to build a sort of a "secret box," where access would be had through a sort of electronic "key." A few specifications: (1) the box would be permanently out of doors, and (2) the "key" would be simple enough that I could give interested parties the schematics and tell them to make one. I'm thinking a USB connection would be a natural, but I'm not an electronics person, so I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks!!!!!

Use a cheap RFID reader and tag and your all set.

Thanks so much! I made a couple posts yesterday and so far have responses from two folks... one of whom seems to be a total tool. Thanks for understanding the spirit of the inquiry....

You give no details, just "secrets", so why not secretly do a Google search first? ;)
You can also magnetic locks, in the old days our school had padlocks that opened using a "key-bar" - inside 5 or 6 magnets.
Magnet placed or not, plus the polarity makes quite a few possible combinations....

I did some google searches. And some Instructibles searches. I didn't give details because I don't yet have any... just a generic idea. I appreciate the lead on the magnetic padlocks, but I don't get the attitude about "secrets"....
