in my fish tank, is it ok to put in fired clay pots as decoration and fish hiding places?

watch out if you have bottom feeders because they like to eat the clay chips and shards. I lost three catfish this way :(

. Clay planting pots are frequently used for aquarium decorations and hiding places for the animals.. As Goodhart pointed out, they will absorb water and the cheaper ones will eventually fall apart. Good ones will last for years. . As with anything you put in the tank, make sure it is CLEAN before introducing to the tank. Warm water (no soap) with just a touch of bleach works well. Let dry for at least 24 hours to allow any residual bleach to evaporate.

Even if fired, they will/may absorb water. If they are not sealed in glaze (perfectly sealed), they will take on water. But safe? I would think that, in taking in the water, algae and other things could also grow in the pores of the pots.
