That remote receiver unit will memorize ANY ir signal you teach it. So any ir remote control unit can be used to trigger it. Did the unit not have instructions?

Every IR remote transmitter have special kind of patterns that are transmitted when any button is pressed. There are many standard patterns like RC5, SONY, NEC.
If you want to 'decode' this pattern you must use some kind of controller chip. Or else you can build some simple circuit that will accept output from IR sensor & toggle output every time it receives any IR signal.

i realise that the receiver will memorise any signal but i need a remote circuit to memorise first something that can be built simply with out any programming and if possible without a 8 pin chip although if it is only a pin thats fine. Thanks :)
