how do you make a loft bed out of pvc pipe? For a girl? A somewhat girly one? Answered

Okay, I don't need it to be pvc pipe. Just pipe. By girly, I mean the bed has to lean toward the feminine side, as the person who will be using it is extremely feminine.

Well since it's PVC you could always make removable curtains in her fav colors to go around the bed. The curtains could hide the PVC and also be used for added privacy. You could attach them with Velcro.

When my girls were little they wanted a canopy bed so I built a suspended pvc pipe canopy from the ceiling to hang over the beds. It was a big hit! I used sheer fabric and sewed a pocket in the middleof the entire length. Then I sewed two pockets about 4 ft from the center pocket. I drilled holes in the ends of the pipes, inserted eye hooks, and hung it from hooks in the ceiling. It used 6 hooks. I hung the center pipe higher than the other pipes and then baste stitched cheap flower vines from walmart to cover the pipes. The sheer fabric draped to the floor on the ends. I bought the sheers at a thrift shop so total cost was very minimal. This would work over a loft bed or perhaps mounted to the bottom to create a curtained play area.

If I were to do something like this, the first thing I would do is to sketch out a rough design of what I wanted. Maybe get some input from whomever is going to sleep in the bed too.
Once a general design was agreed upon, research what materials were available and consider the best, and most attractive way to achieve the finished project.
For a PVC pipe bed I would use only schedule 80 pipe and fittings, and depending on the size and weight of the person who will use it, either 3" or 4" inside diameter pipe for any structural members.
Keep in mind that plastic pipe tends to sag or deflect laterally with very little loading, so intermediate support will be needed on your longer pieces.
Here is a link to a website that has a pretty good variety of PVC pipe and fittings.
Check this site and Google others to find the materials you would need:
http://www.flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?cartlink=What_Fitting_Do_I_Need.htm

I'd go with lumber rather than PVC. PVC has many virtues, but resistance to bending is not really one of them.

I'm not sure what you mean "girly," but there are some useful links to the right.
