Try margarine or vegetable oil. Put plenty of it all around the adhesive joint, and then leave it to sit overnight. Most adhesives will combine with the oil to form a sort of a sticky goo that you can wipe away with a paper towel. You may need to repeat the oil treatment a couple of times to get all of the adhesive, and then you'll need to clean both parts with soap and water and/or rubbing alcohol to get rid of all the traces of goo.

If it doesn't respond to gentle persuasion, I'd try heat, which shouldn't hurt either of them if used carefully. Just make sure you avoid thermal shock to the glass -- let it warm and cool gradually, or it may shatter. Or you could try solvents, but when you don't know what you're trying to dissolve that's likely to be a long search.
