check to see if the drive is plugged in (internally)
If its powered up and plugged in, then it may be a hardware problem
Check device manager on the computer to see if there is any hardware that needs drivers, or is damaged - if not, you need a new drive. They're cheap (20 bucks) for a plain jane dvd burner.
