i need help trying to hack / add video to an over sized phone shaped video store display? Answered

hey i just got a hold of a store displace for a motorola photon, it place like a 30 second video on loop. it has 2 buttons to access video and sound settings and next to it is a female usb port. i pluged in a simple usb drive and it said it was unsupported, so my question if any one has experience with these type of displays, is there a way i can load other videos, pictures or even use it as an external display.

Do you still have this? If so all you need is an older version of that screen like the ones used for the fishbowl displays or the ones for i1 display and use the USB connector card out of that and replace the on this one with that one and BAM it works. I will make a video for you later today.

When it was in use I assume it was always plugged in? It might not have an onboard battery.
You can use amazon or ebay to find pretty much any arrangement of USB-USB cable, and for relatively cheap. I agree with mpilchfamily, I think your best bet is going to be getting it plugged into a computer.

my guess is you insert a usb key with firmware/video file on it and boot the display with a certain key combo where it will internally copy the key and set itself up...

Without knowing exactly what software is on it, we can't say for certain.

As mpilch says, you can make a usb male male straight through connection from spare parts (dead mice are great for old usb male connections -- wire straight through green white red black)

You could try finding a USB cable with double male connectors on ti to plug into a PC and see what files are on it or if a PC can even utilize it. You could also open it up and search for data sheets on the components and see what kind of mods you can do to it.

It's not a common cable. You'll have to buy one or make one from a pair of old cables. Chances are the device will show up as a drive and will only accept a certain file format. Most likely one that isn't standard. So i'd take it apart and see what it's got inside and learn what you can about it. Then you might find a way to use it.

i had it , it was a cross over cable, but i can make one i have a few cords about i just dont know how it would be wired

and me opening it up won't do a thing for me i'll just see a circuit bored and the chipps/ parts won't mean a single thing to me, thats why im asking. i was hoping it would be built on some sort of standard video player or something

Google will help with part numbers. Nobody just knows the product codes that manufacturers print on their products.
