I hate to disagree with kelseymh but yes you can vote for your own instructable, but only once. One vote will not get you to far in the rankings so it really doesn't make much of a difference. Of course the logical thing to do would be to vote for only yourself and no one else. But then if everyone did that then everyone would only have one vote. In that respect the authors cancel each other out. Which is why its up to all the people viewing the contest entries to vote for what they find is deserving. And also why you should vote for other projects that are good. However, in the end votes do not determine the winners. They help to narrow down the field but an outstanding entry that comes in at the last minute and so will not get that many votes can still win based on the merit of the project.

Votes for your own project get automatically removed by the system.

That must have been one of the changes they made when they stopped posting vote tallies. Being able to sort by votes did sort of skew things since it floated the highest ones to the top. But it did amaze me that there were always some instructables that didn't get any votes. Since you could vote for your own back then (I assume they counted then) then if your entry had no votes at all that indicated that even the author didn't think it was good enough to vote for.

You could vote for your own back then, but they were then removed manually by staff.

So then you can actually vote for yourself but it just doesn't count. Is that mentioned in the contest FAQ page?

Without checking, I don't know, but it doesn't matter, since voting for yourself (or not) doesn't affect the results.

Once you enter a contest, and are accepted, votes happen two ways:

● There is a ribbon-shaped banner at the top of the project that allows members to vote for every contest it is entered into.

● Members can visit the contest page and vote for whichever entries they like.

You can encourage friends and family to join up and vote (good old social media!), but your own votes for your own entries don't get counted.
