1. If your designing something you shouldn't make arbitrary decisions about the design. You should do the calculations and from the data you should select something that is suitable. that included motors, battery, ESC, controller.

Lipo is the lightest battery with highest energy density, fast to charge and no Serious-Energy-Xchange memory difficulties.

11.1 v lipo or 10.8v Ni MH battery is ideal

I'd use a "11.1V Li-Po battery" plenty of places to buy them and easy enough to charge.
Bit Like Rick here said it's best to build it around the Specs of the acctuall components you plan to use.
