The beauty of jacob's ladder is the buzzing down frequency sound it makes as the arc climbs the widening wire gap suddenly going out, and restarting again.
What do you consider Good ?
Electrically there is no need for good or bad unless this starts a Structure Fire in your mad scientist laboratory.
If you keep the spark distance LONG... you will have less amperage drain. If you move the probes too close together you increase the amperes and may overheat/burnout the coil. The wires must be just the right angle for the spark to travel up it.
The arc should climb the ladder and break towards the top . If it's not doing that then spread the rods apart further till it does or turn down the power.
