Sometimes changing the temperature helps. In particular, warmer temperatures will help make many kinds of plastics become more plastic; i.e. more flexible and easier to work with.

As an example of this, I always use a small pot of boiling water for repairing PVC garden hoses. I stick the hose ends into boiling water for a few seconds, and this makes them soft enough to push the repair connectors into them.

Although boiling water might not be a good idea with your caulking tape, especially if it and the surface it sticks to must be dry. Perhaps some other kind of heat, like maybe hot air from hair dryer, or heat gun, could work to heat that tape, as you apply it.

Although, using a heat gun, or hair dryer, can sometimes require finesse, because a heat gun, hair dryer, can make things too hot, especially if you keep the the gun pointed at the same spot for too much time.

Your trying to modify a product the chemist have developed. Maybe if you describe what your trying to do, someone can recommend a product that will work. There are thousands out there across many fields. RJF
