motion activated alarm, sort of Answered

my wife just bought a tin pig that is about two feet tall and she wants me to see if i can make it squeal when someone walks up to our front door.  i figure it sounds like an easy project but i am not sure.  i have enough experience wiring, soldering, and general tech stuff.  i have read up and can guess that i will need a pair sensor and some sort of  micro controller, but i am unclear what or what to do with it.  the goal is to have a piece that i can put inside the pig and have it detect a visitor and then trigger a sample of a pig sound.  i know its silly, but i do what the wife asks!!

ideas of maybe a link to something specific would be helpful!

You could just buy a motion activated sound module and record any kind of sound you want into it.

I believe that system uses an LDR. Simple enough to remove from the housing and place anywhere you want in the pig. Or mod that device to take another input. Just a matter of sending the right voltage to the circuit to trigger it.

You also get emergency lights (even battery operated) that have a build in motion sensor.
The sensors are not the best compared to a dedicated one for an alarm system but they do the job.
Instead of the light let it power a sound module.

You can easily rig up an alarm type system with a small arduino and a PIR infrared sensor or an ultrasonic distance sensor. Hide the sensors in the eyes of the pig or some other place. Look at Adafruit for their sound board that can be triggered by an arduino to play back recorded sound effect snippets from a memory card. Good luck.
