My guess would be that the firmware in the external hard drive is confused. I would reformat your drive.

If you don't care about the files, you might just want to re-partition the entire drive. That should probably fix it. You'll either need to delete one partition or the other and the expand the other or just wipe the whole drive and re-partition it. Is it a problem though? If it stores your data fine, is it worth the trouble deleting everything and re-partitioning?

Yes. Used it as a a 320gb for a year, re sized it and set separate partitions because I have a mac and pc around all the time but now it says its 500gb. I lost most of my data which I dont mind since i still have my music either on mp3 player or the discs but. I want it to be fixed so I can use it safely

Open up the enclosure and see what the label on the drive says. It is possible that someone replaced the original with a larger drive, or they got it mixed up in the factory, or they just mislabeled it. The label on the actual hard drive is the one that you should believe.

Has it ever appeared to your computer as 320gb? Maybe you have bigger HD mistakenly sold as smaller? Check it with another computer to make sure.
