Here's what I did when i was young and had no money. I read magazines and books in the library for FREE telling me how to build my own gadgets! In the 5th grade i built a crystal radio. By the 7th grade i built a Tesla coil. In high school I built a brainwave monitor from Popular Electronics magazine. Nowadays, there is so much electronic stuff thrown in the TRASH that you have access to a free goldmine of scrap junk. Here is a CHALLENGE for you. See if you can take apart a JUNK radio or tape player or answering-machine... and build something out of it. You should be able to build an OSCILLATOR or an AMPLIFIER, or something. Look through INSTRUCTABLES for ideas. You will have more fun learning, designing, and building your OWN electronics gadgets than buying an expensive gadget ! In the process, you might end up WORKING in the electronics industry and making BIG BUCKS. There are STILL jobs in electronics... just not so many TV repairmen anymore. Solar Electric and Wind power is starting up.. jobs will always be needed in electric power equipment. Safety warning: Do not take apart any items that are dangerous. Microwave ovens and televisions have VERY hazardous voltages even when UNPLUGGED so don't mess with them. Always ask for permission from your parents before taking anything apart.
