old giant battery? Answered

yesterday my teched teacher showed us an old battery. It looks like a supersized 9-volt battery. it was like 7 inches long or something like that and had a voltage output of something like 75.5 (yes, 75 and a half) volts. I think it's used for old radios? What are these batteries called?

. IIRC, those were referred to as B+. May have been for the plates.

Yep. The HV DC taps in "modern" tube equipment are still referred to as the "B" voltage, or the "B" tap... I'm not sure it stands for battery; it's just the second required current source ("A" being the filament source.)
