rating system for answers? Answered

Why does the rating system give a rating on the basis of a single vote? Seems both biased and silly to me.

Actually I don't understand the reason for rating questions anyway.

They don't matter.

Now you've done it. Someone is rating every question and now I'll have to read them all.

If I see a rated question, I tend to have a look at it even if I would not normally be interested in the subject matter, purely because someone thought it was an interesting enough discussion to rate.

Well, not to mention that it's already weighted before anyone even votes.

I've seen some pretty bad questions or outright spam that I've not only flagged, but also voted as "Worthless" out of pure spite ;-> and yet after voting (as the first person to respond, they still show as ~average.

I think its just the same page format, a template that is tested and known to work well. There is also a stats tab which sometimes is handy. If you put something up for sale in the forums you get the same format with the ratings and stats. Like I said, basic page layout. It keeps it simpler to implement changes also. You make a change in the base layout and its reflected in all pages at the same time.
Say if they decided to add a "Likes" tab next to the stats it would show up everywhere with just the one change.

Just a guess but I'd say its just being lazy and useing the code already being used on ibles for the answer/questions.

Honestly untill I read this I never noticed you could rate a question. Or maybe I seen it there but it never clicked upstairs.
