simplest way to automatically turn power on/off (every couple seconds)? Answered

I'm looking for an easy way to turn power on and off every couple seconds (randomly would be nice, but not absolutely needed).  Such as for blinking an LED, not turning off all the power in a house.  Any suggestions?

xmas lites use heat from the bulb filament to throw what amounts to a thermal circuit breaker. When it cools, power is restored, and the cycle begins again.

There is also a very simple circuit which uses the charging + dischaging time of a capacitor to control a relay.

There are some simple 555 timer chip circuits to build or maybe you can insert into the circuit one of those flashing christmas light bulbs or flickering tea LED tea candle lights. It depends on what you want to control. Good luck.
