You could try vinager. Thats what I use to remove/break up deposits on shower heads and faucets. Works everytime.

My water is alkaline and it leaves deposits on sprinklers (and everything else). So when my sprinklers start clogging up I clean the deposit's off with toilet bowl acid. You could also use Lime Away or something like that but I have found the acid to be the most effective and cheapest. Just be careful of aluminum parts because it eats that up,
