Very often i have had this problem also... and there are several  things that can cause the problem...  and you must check each one so solve  "no sound" problems.

1... MUTE button is pressed on keyboard or "settings"
2... SOUND LEVEL  is turned down all the way in SOFTWARE.
          (the on-screen volume control)
3... SOUND LEVEL on your SPEAKERS is turned too low.
     4.   SPEAKERS are not plugged in to power, not turned on, not plugged
          into the proper jack
5...  The SOUNDCARD settings are set for "AUX" input or "line in" or other
wrong setting.. (check volume control settings in the START---controlpanel---- sound settings path).
6.... You may have installed some new software that has disabled the
soundcard by installing NEW DRIVERS for the sound card.  To fix this, you may need to go to sound card settings and select proper driver for software you have... or you may need to re-install the sound drivers for your
computer.

7.... you may have plugged a set of headphones into the FRONT PANEL of your computer, which may have DISABLED the speakers sound...

8.... SOMETIMES... just shutting down your computer and restarting it will solve the problem.

Those things have 99 percent got me going on sound again. be sure to try the EASY things first before resorting to  re-installing sound drivers or choosing different sound drivers.  THOSE things are the most risky and the least likely to be the problem anyway.

Can you post the message that is displayed?

It's possible you have a problem with your soundcard, but without knowing the exact message, it's difficult to followup.

Dumb as it might sound (i've been there myself), it's also possible that you've just muted the volume...???

Windows has a sound control.
Your sound card driver probably loaded one when you installed the software that came with your card.  I would reinstall the driver and software that came with your card.

If you open up the control panel and click on the icon for sound and audio devices you should be able to contol the level there.
