YOu need to learn at least the basics in electronics before you start working on your robot.

If you g00gle "electronic tutorial" you'll get lots of site that will explain what you need to know so that you can design and build your robot or what ever you want.

This site has a good explanation of resistors.  Instructables also has several related things in the col. to the right under "related".

After you get into it and have done a little homework, come back here and ask for help to get over the hard bits that you don't quite understand.

Learning something new takes effort at any age. But when you learn how to do something fun it's really worth it.

I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about electronics.  It's easy to understand, you get to make some interesting things, and you even get to break stuff on purpose.

You're new to electronics too. Find yourself some good text books on it, try something like 'O' level to begin with.
