what is the ball on a leydon jar for? Answered

ive already tested other things to make the shock stronger, like putting a spring that allowed it to shock people without them touching the foil. i head the ball and magnet makes it stronger but i want to know how this works??? anyone plz tell me P.S Plasmana Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
