Every generator needs a fuel to generate electricity it usually use coal, petrol or diesel. Most of the generators (usually electrical supply plants) use these fuels (mostly coal and diesel) as a source of heat to make water to steam then this steam is used to rotate the turbines and through the dynamo it produces electricity.

Or if it is a usual small generators used to only supply electricity to one house it uses the concept of internal combustion and here only petrol is used.

Unless the generator is powered by a gasoline engine it has no use in the generator it'self.

It depends on the generator being powered with the gasoline, as well as it's average load. You can contact the generators' mfg to determine average and peak consumption rates based on usage

The petrol in the generator is the happy liquid.

When there's a power failure and you have the happy liquid you'll be dancing with the lights on but everybody else will be sitting in the dark, sadly staring at candles.

Its hard to put on a happy face and dance a lively jig with candles.

Petrol is liquid electricity.

A generator converts the liquid to AC current.

Just as grape wine is liquid sunshine.

petrol in a generator serves as a memory aid and training mechanism. For example, when the lights go out and you then remember that you forgot to put more fuel in it. Or when the electric service goes out and you find that your tank is empty because you neglected to service your emergency equipment in a timely manor.
