Make sure you hit the "upload" button and wait Try the other uploader. Don't waste your time with massive uncompressed images, 800x400 jpgs will do. Check you've got a sensible filename format, e.g. "image.jpg" not things with brackets or funny extensions / characters or multiple dots.
1) You are not actually uploading the pics. After you select your pics using the browse function, you need to click on the orange Upload button (after adding tags, if desired). You will see thumbnails of the pics added to the "recent uploads" tab in your library when the upload is done. 2) If you are uploading the pics, you may not be adding them to the instructable. The easiest way to do this is to check the "automatically add to this step" box when you upload. You can also drag thumbnails from your library into the "attached images and files" box on the instructable. 3) The pictures may be too large. If the files are humongous, Instructables will barf. Try resizing the pictures to reduce the file size.
If it's not one of those, it's may be something caused by your security settings or an FTP limit imposed by your ISP or something, but I'd need more information to try and troubleshoot something like that.
