Ah well the thing is, "glycol" isn't actually just one compound. The term glycol simply means a diol with the hydroxide groups on different carbons. The most common glycol is probably ethylene glycol, which is easily obtained from auto radiator fluid; usually a 50% solution with water (although some radiator fluid uses propylene glycol, and others contain neither).

I recently found some diethylene glycol (DEG) as FancyHeat food tray heaters, available at some dollar stores in the US.
