why is my 2009 grinding into 1st and 5th gear? Answered

We just had the clutch replaced in our 2009 Toyota Corolla.  Now it grinds going into 1st and 5th gear.  We have never had any problems with it prior to that.  Is it possible that the clutch isn't adjusted right or is the synchro bad?  It drives worse now than before replacing the clutch.

Chances are good that the old clutch plate was worn down which means it was thinner. When it was replaced the cable needed to be adjusted for the newer thicker plates. If all they did was replace the plates and not adjust the cable then it is not separating the plates completely which will cause the gears to remain partly engaged when you try to shift. If the people who fixed it will not adjust it the way it should be without charging you you could probably do it yourself. Look up on line how to adjust it. There is probably a Utube video of it somewhere.

Bring it back to the shop and have them fix it properly ;)
After all there should be some warranty on the work done.

2 options

1. the clutch needs adjusting now it is settled in.

2. The syncromesh system on 1st and 5th is damaged -
