I happen to be running win 98 se, on my p.c. still! It isn't always easy, The older this software gets, the less compatible it is. I don't even bother with upgrading it anymore as not many people furnish good drivers for win98 anymore. To answer your question, I wouldn't by a new graphic card. Instead I would try to scab one out of a newer, discarded pc, and then hunt for the drivers on the web. I have performed 2 major upgrades to my p.c., (the last one was 5 years ago), but I doubt I'll be able to do much more to the old girl, without a O.S. upgrade, it needs it too. If you have room to add more memory, and you have some compatible sticks to put in, then that should be easy and painless. I hope this helps. Note: I am testing free Linux based operating systems right now on a spare computer I have. Debian works, but I don't like it. I'm getting ready to try CentOS 5.3

Probably not. It might work a bit better, but your old Win98 machine will probably only take old memory and graphics cards, and the rest of the machine will still be older and slower. Unless you can get something to fit that's significantly better than what you've got now cheap, you're better of investing in a new machine.
