If you wrap nylon line of any sort on a plastic spool after it's been under tension, it will shrink and crush the spool. Kite flyers learn this early. A solid wood spool will always work. Sunlight or any UV light will weaken it and shorten it's life.

I would wrap it on a plastic spool.  Store it dry in a cabinet or closet away from the light.  I don't know if light would hurt it but it never hurts to be safe.
