“Necessity is the mother of invention.” This philosophy has sparked imaginations for centuries and still rings true today. When you find that something must be accomplished but there isn’t a way to do it, we encourage you to invent a way!

We’re working with the innovation experts at Kickstarter to bring you the Invention Challenge, your chance to share your brightest ideas and show us what you’ve invented. Your invention can complete a task, solve a problem, or just make life more fun.

We’re offering some awesome prizes that got their start on Kickstarter. You could win a Nomad CNC mill, a Robo 3D printer, or a Teensy 3.6 development board — great prototyping tools to help move your idea forward. So brainstorm, iterate, and invent something exciting and new. Maybe you’ll even feel inspired to take the next step and bring your idea to life on Kickstarter.

Looking for some inspiration for our Invention Challenge? Sign up for Kickstarter’s Invent newsletter to see the latest in design and tech.

Don't forget to check out the new Invention Class to learn more about taking your idea and bringing it to life! Try your hand at designing your inventions in three dimensions with Fusion 360 3D modeling software; it's free for all students, educators, and hobbyists!

Write an Instructable

Create a new Instructable that fits the guidelines outlined in the contest description above. To be eligible, Instructables must be published between Jun 5, 2017 and Jul 31, 2017 (11:59pm PT).

Upon publishing your Instructable you'll see checkboxes for open contests. Select Invention Challenge 2017. If you have entries currently eligible for entry, it will also show up by clicking "Enter this Contest" on the right side of this page.

Entries are accepted by Instructables staff within one business day Monday - Friday. What matters is the submission time, not acceptance time.

A panel of judges made up of Instructables staff and respected members of the community rate the finalists. The averages of the ratings determine the winners.

When the winners are decided they will be notified and announced here on the contest page.
