How could I make a sushi train? Answered

For school, I need to pretend to be a party planner and plan a party for 8 year old boys. The theme that I chose was cars and vehicles, so my classmate came up with the idea of using a sushi train like thing to transport cupcakes around the table. Is there any way to make one? It doesn't have to be an actual sushi train. It could just be a conveyor belt, or a train set modified. But what I really want to know is the cost. Thankyou in advance! =D

Big Feast Contest

The awesome folks over at Food52 are hosting a fantastic monthly contest called Big Feast. The idea is that  you plan a huge themed feast and document it all along the way (sound like something we do here?). It's an opportunity for you to spend some quality time planning your dream dinner party, poring over your favorite cookbooks, taking gorgeous food photos, and figuring out just how many of your favorite people you'd like to feed. Once you've got your dream feast all planned, you pitch the idea to the editors at Food52 and wait to see if they're just as excited about your feast as you are. If your pitch is chosen, you get to throw your party and capture the whole day of prepping, cooking and partying and send the story and your best photos in -- and you win $500 worth of beautiful Le Creuset cookware and your party/recipes get shared on the blog. How neat is that? They've already chosen their first winner, arielleclementine. She planned a science-themed party for her best friend's boyfriend and her event will be showcased all this week on the Food52 blog - so you should really check it out!  Great ideas there for our Food Science Challenge here as well!

Last Meal

I'm a television junkie and I recently watched an episode of King of the Hill in which Dale, Bill, Boomhauer and Khan get together to make what would be their last meal, if they knew they were going to be executed the next day.  I was thinking about this....what would my last meal be? A Japanese bento with tonkatsu, teriyaki chicken, tempura veg, various sushi, Grandma's green chile, and her black mole (mo-lay) and my Mom's rice......and some Ghiradelli dark chocolate. What would your last meal be? I think I want to get some friends together and do my own "Last Meal Party."....In time for Halloween.

Christmas Appetizers

Ok guys, I need some help. My mother has decided to throw a Christmas party, and I need help coming up with things to eat. Just little appetizers and finger foods. She wants to go ahead and get a menu together, so that we can kind of price everything (money is a bit tight this year). I'm drawing a blank as to what kind of goes with the holiday. Especially given the restrictions: No tomatoes, No corn, No shellfish. Some people coming over are extremely allergic to them. I have been asked to make a cheesecake and some bacon wrapped chicken. So that's two things. I need a few more. Any suggestions? Really any food that goes with the holiday, or just social get togethers with be appreciated.

instructions/recipe for a totally edible popcorn shelled pinatas?

When I was a kid I remember every year we had a Popcorn Pinata at Grandmas. I'd like to make one for the kids at Church. And maybe start the tradition agian. All I remeber is it was a big hollow popcorn ball that was actually two half somehow glued together and it was pretty tastey too. I tried once before to guess at how to make it. Heres what I used and the probelms with it. Light Corn Syrup and popcorn two metal bowls and wax paper to lift it out with. The probelms were; it didn't hold it's shape taking it out (so it sure wont hold up to a beating). I'm not sure how I would go about making a loop or something stirty enough to hang it from either if it did harden enough. Also, I remember some years it was impossible for us kids to even crack it. (but the Uncles had fun helping)  Any thoughts?

Call for Mac & Cheese Recipes!

Homeroom is a specialty Mac & Cheese restaurant opening soon in Oakland.  Even better, they're running a mac and cheese recipe challenge!  You don't have to be local to enter (or win), and the best recipes will be included in their upcoming cookbook.  I suggest posting your mac'n'cheese Instructable, then sending along the link as your entry - we'd like to see what you've made, too! Details from the Homeroom website: The winning dish will be selected from a group of 10 finalists, who will be invited to show off their mac and cheese at cook-off party held right here in Oakland. But don’t worry out-of-towners, if we choose your recipe one of us will cook it up for you. But there’s a catch. For your recipe to qualify for the grand prize or for a spot in the cookbook, you must follow a few simple rules: * You must use only California cheeses in your mac and cheese. * All recipes must be based on 1 pound of dried pasta. * The retail cost of all your ingredients must equal or be less than $20. The best salmon dish youve ever had!

I made up this recipe one day and it became an instant hit with my family and my cheese-a-holic boyfreind! Its super easy but really impressive, great for dinner parties! Definitely not for those on a diet..... :) Serves 6 Rachelles Super Fantastic White Wine Poached Salmon W/Havarti Dill Cream Sauce over Herbed Rice! Sauce: 1 Lb. Harvarti w/Dill (usually sold at Safeway in the specialty cheese case in small ~half lb. blocks) 2 Pints Heavy Cream Salt&Pepper; to taste Fish: 6 Skin on Salmon filets 1 Shallot 1 clove garlic 1 Tbs olive oil 1 bottle white wine (I use Chateau St. Michelle Geswurtzraminer) Salt&Pepper; to taste Rice: 6 serving of your favorite rice (white brown, wild, minute, doesnt matter, use what you like) 1 tsp basil 1 pinch rosemary 1 pinch rubbed sage 1 tbs butter In a large shallow sauce pan, sweat the shallot and garlic on low heat in the olive oil until the shallot is soft. Salt and pepper to taste. Spread the shallots and garlic evenly across the bottom of the pan and place your fillets on top, skin side down, dont stack them! Pour the wine over the top until its covers about 3/4 of the way up the fish, cover and turn heat up a notch, medium low heat. Now just leave it alone! dont peak, dont poke, dont move your fillets around, just let them sit and cook! Depending on your stove, you may need to bump the heat up to a solid medium heat, you want it simmering, not boiling. Cook until tender 20-30 min. Now start your cream heating. Put it in a large round bottomed sauce pan and place over medium heat, stir occasionally to prevent the bottom burning.  Now start your rice so that by the time your sauce is done, your rice is too, so you can plate up immedietly and you wont have to worry about your sauce setting. Just cook your rice the same as always, only add the sage, rosemary, basil, and butter to the water so that the flavors cook into the rice While your cream is heating shred your havarti. I like to use the cheese grater attachment in my food processor because its super fast and you need top be able to watch your cream too! As soon as your cream is hot (NOT BOILING, JUST HOT) start slowly whisking in your cheese. Whisk constantly while adding about a half cup at a time, keep your heat on medium low while doing this or your sauce will break. It will take a little while to get your sauce smooth, so keep your heat low and just keep whisking until its nice and smooth. Salt and pepper to taste. Plating: Mound your herb rice in the center of your plate, spoon a little bit of the cooking liqiud from the fish over the rice then place your fillet on top. Drizzle a good dose of Your havarti dill sauce over the top and DIG IN!
