Fixing a broken belt.?

I've read many answers on how to fix the belt which I did do that. But my problem is the screw must of been missing from the beginning  and finally the belt came apart. So I need to know where I can get one of those small screws to repair the belt. Thank you.

Sam Browne belt/harness mods?

I want to make a modification to the classic Sam Browne belt/harness by adding a thigh bag to hold tools, water bottles, etc. I'm looking for a pattern to be made from heavy canvas or at least khaki denim. If anyone's been to an Army surplus store will probably get a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for. The bag has one large central pocket, two zippered pockets on the inside, and two outer pockets. It also has a large cover flap over the top with a leather or canvas tie-down straps.

What is the best way to cut a rubber (non-steel-belted) tire? Answered

I need a method of cutting a non-belted rubber tire (I'm attempting to sole shoes) that will (a) allow for an angular design, and (b), leave relatively clean edges. The best idea I've gotten was to use a hacksaw with water in the cuts for lubrication, but the results are too ragged and uneven. Any good ideas would be appreciated!

Question: How to use old gym floor wood

Does anyone know an effective way of removing the plastic coating on gym floor wood.  I have managed to remove the plastic once, using a belt sander and many, many, unfortunate, coarse sand belts. Also occasionally using a chisel. This did work well, just very time consuming. The result was a very nice, strong wood. I would be very interested in any information on this.

Wooden Go Kart?

*Hopefully this is the correct category..... Hello all! I am quite interested to start learning woodworking (already have some knowledge) And what better way to start that with a gas (or electric) go-kart :-P? I know fair amount of people who have built things out of wood, some younger than I am (14). And it seems like a very good skill to have. Plus, if I am good enough at it and I outgrow the go kart, Ca-CHING! I could sell it for profit (If it is in good enough condition still). I'm currently in 8th grade but I cannot take a woodworking class until 10th grade, So why not start? I was also wondering if the Ibles community could help? I could use some ideas, and I will need alot of info for the engine and frame.(If you can even find PEDAL CART info that would be awesome too). My plan is to have it done by mid summer (July 10 for me). This may seem like too much for me, but I want to build one that, if it doesn't have an engine, one could easily add one (I realize I can not run a gas/lawnmower engine on its side) Please leave your thoughts below!!

I watched it fill with water, then the agitator started moving. After a minute or so, the agitator stopped moving but the motor was still running. heavy duty snap source for making leather bracelets?

Hi,   Have been looking at the tutorials for making leather bracelets.  Purchased a snap setter from a craft store but the snaps aren't deep enough.  The leather is too thick for the snaps, it barely gets through the leather.   There's no way it could make the connection to attach the snaps to the leather.  The leather I'm using is about 1/8" or 3mm thick; about the thickness of a belt.  Suggestions for sources? Thanks!

rubber apparel buttons from bike tires?

I made the bike tread belt, and of course wound up with two extra strips of rubber. Then I cut out shapes from them, which I think could be used as apparel buttons (as opposed to on/off buttons.) Is there an easier way to do this than with scissors? Also, buttons are often harder than rubber tires, but I also know that rubber gets hard over the years. Is there a simple way for me to make the rubber harder?

Budget Bowl Lathe

I salvaged an AC motor from an old water pump I found on the side of the road and want to use it to make a simple lathe for turning green wood bowls and cups.  I was thinking about using a floor flange as the face plate, a nipple for the shaft and pillow bearing blocks to support it.  This assembly would be driven by a v belt and controlled by the speed controller from a jig saw.  I attached pictures of the components and a simple cad drawing of the assembly. Do you think this would be functional? Any recommendations?

selfcontained electric car?

I had a few ideas on how to make more efficient cars. First off why is it we have NO generators being used while stuffs rotating. Take a small generator with a rubber drive point...like there a chain or belt would go... and place that on the tires. This is a friction driven generator which means that it would not work well in the rain. These...if done right... could keep the car running and then keep the battery charged. Using the battery only for stops. I also think we need to figure out a way to put a coil in the drive train somewhere. Making it to where when the car stops the coil is wound tight, when the car takes off again the coil could unwind and help the car take off. this feature added to gasoline engines would help cut the cost of gas greatly, not to mention emissions.

I'm having trouble finding the right material for a full head mask. suggestions? Answered

I get bored, often. And to pass that time i make goggles and masks, until now ive used leather, denim, hard plastic, metal, paper mache, and even clay. I've been inspired by this game, Gotham City Imposters, to make a "homemade" version of batmans cowl. I'd like to make it out of a material that i guess would have to stretch, cuz i just want to be able to slip it on and off, you see, all of my full head masks ive made so far have either had belts or laces in the back that id have to do up and undo everytime i took it on and off. So my question for this project and future ones is... what the lump should i use (as far as materials) that would be tight (not too tight) and be easy to slip on and off my head, without breaking or tearing?

Hallowe'en competition - free idea for somebody.

I just had an idea for hallowe'en that I have neither the time nor the resources to do, but somebody else might. This would work best if your front door is some distance from the street, maybe with a creaky wooden porch to cross.Rig a fake wooden front door with a long inch-wide slot, top-to-bottom.Fill the slot in with a strip of something fragile (styrofoam? balsa? papier mache?). Maybe disguise the strip with smeared bloody hand-prints (especially round the door handle)Render a chainsaw "safe" (having never used a chainsaw, I don't know if this is possible - take the teeth off? replace the chain with a rubber belt?)When somebody rings the bell, start the chainsaw behind the door, give it a couple of revs and then cut through the fragile strip, laughing like a happy psycho. If the visitors are still there, stick one crazed eye up at the door and yell trick or treeeaaaat?Afterwards, mop the urine and faeces off your front step, replace the fragile strip, and settle back to wait for the next victim.

reducing noise from chain driven garage door opener to apartment above. GDO is mounted to cement ceiling..need isolators

, when GDO is opened, the initial start causes a big bang , which abruptly  awakens  the people in the apartment  above. i  am not the garage user or apartment  resident. however it seems there is a relatively easy solution to isolate the noise.  When i had my GDO installed , i knew of these problems and opted for a belt driven since it is quieter, but for all i know the , a new resident could move in and i could be an annoyance. She had the installers return but , they just know how to follow the instructions. i looked into this a couple years ago,  i saw  in some GDO homeowner  handyman site the same problem and i read  that there was an isolation piece of hard rubber that would go between the cement ceiling and the GDO  hardware that attached to the ceiling which would reduce the noise transmitted to the apartment above. i looked a couple years back and  couldn't find  the supplier of this  rubber noise dampener/ isolator. Anyone have any ideas on how to quiet the problem, or is the chain too long and that is adding to the BANG when the GDO starts

Tech Deck Skate Park (WIP)

I've recently started to build a tech deck skate park. The base is mdf (solid stuff, very heavy), and all the features will be made from wood with metal coping. The base is 36"x16" to fit on my desk. You can track my progress here: chrismccann.wordpress.com Let me know what you think, what you might change, and what you like/don't like. Also if you need any closeups of anything, I've got it saved in CAD and can post any screenshots you guys want. Also, here are a few questions I have for you guys: -The flat rails were easy because they were handles, but how could I make the rail on the stair set? -How should I cut the profiles (out of 1/2" plywood) that will be the shape of the quarter pipe? I need to accurately cut that radius, but I only have a crappy band saw, 1" belt sander, drill press, dremel, and various hand tools.

How to weave a keffiyeh?

Whether you call it a shemagh, coalition scarf, keffiyeh, or ghutrah, it is an eye-catching article of clothing that has hundreds of practical uses aside from looking chic. Unfortunately, in the last couple of decades, the keffiyeh have been associated (wrongfully so) with terrorism and extremism of the Middle-Eastern sort. Yes, Islamic extremists have been known to wear keffiyat, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of them drinking milk, too. The practical uses of keffiyat are almost limitless. Aside from keeping dust and sand out of your face, they retain moisture quite well. The ShamWow has NOTHING on this age-old masterpiece. In a survival situation, they can be used to bind a wound, make a splint, prevent heat stroke, and military applications are limited only to imagination. I've heard stories of Marines using shemaghs as rifle slings, belts, and even mops for cleaning a mess hall.  Anybody can buy a keffiyeh from Army Surplus, or get a bolt of fabric, cut a square of it out, wrap it around their heads, and call it a shemagh, but I'd like to be able to weave my own. Trouble is, I don't know how to weave. Are there any Instructabots here who are both experienced at weaving and willing to devote hours of monotony to making an instructable for this?

Could one insulate their attic and/or walls with those stupid plastic grocery bags...safely and effectively, that is?

I have switched to some awesome reusable bags I bought at Office Depot that have a little bag that clips onto your purse or belt-loop. But I joke to the grocery clerks (when they look at me funny when I hand them the bags and say no more plastic) that if I bring home 1 more plastic bag I'm going to drill a hole in my wall and start stuffing them in for insulation...my question is...Could I Do That? Safely first of all, but also effectively? This would be a HUGE find if it is...We could hit a planetary Royal Flush...Reducing our energy consumption by cheaply over-insulating our homes (an option that would make it possible for poor folk to take advantage too) AND getting those pesky bags off our streets, out of our oceans thereby reducing pollution and halting the devastating effects they have had on the sea life, AND reduce the space they take up in our landfills, PLUS with this as an alternative to having to turning them in, the current backlog of "recycled" bags piling up because this economic down slide reduces the amount of these goods that China is importing to turn into future landfill occupants. So can it be done?

Ghost riders in the sky

I know that this probably isn't the perfect site to be asking for this, but I figure I'll give it a shot. I'd like to come up with a design for a picture I intend to create, which shows the Four Horsemen, except instead of horses, they're riding motorcycles. If anyone is familiar with The Outlaws' version of the song song "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky", I'd like it to fit in with that theme: hard-charging, kind of dark... you can tell from the atmosphere that they're Hell-riders. I'm trying to come up with a layout for it: how are the Horsemen arranged, what precisely do their bikes look like, where are they, and are they chasing the Devil's Herd of cattle? And should they even be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, or just regular cowboys who were eternally damned, like the song goes? Both have different visual possibilities. So what I'm looking for is even the crudest drawings depicting one aspect of the picture that you think would be cool. Maybe you have the idea for the perfect shape and level of tattering to one Horseman's cowboy hat, and would like to suggest that. Maybe you think that if one of the guys was riding a Vincent, it'd be the most badass thing since open pipes. Chasing the cattle through a canyon, or idling at the top of a cliff looking down on the Devil's Herd? Any cool color palette you've seen? good reference photos? Stick figures are great. Here's what I have so far, although it can be changed no problem. Like I said, I'd like details of the coolest intake you can think of, the perfect instrument panels, the perfect trenchcoat for a rider. Any little detail, rendered in any level of quality. I'm considering showing them all riding along side each other, holding rifles, instead of the badly-perspectived parked scene shown here. Have the perfect design for the mountains? Toss it in! I plan on making these very huge, so don't worry about details being too small. You'll notice that I'd like to have one Indian, left-hand throttle bike, potentially a big twin, and potentially a Four, with fringed leater seat and saddlebags. I'd also like to have a stretch chopper with a king & queen seat, but I can't decide between a wide or a narrow tire. Notice how the Indian rider is holding his rifle in the second picture. I'd like to have him holding a gun, and at least one of the other guys having a pistol belt with two Colt Peacemakers. If anyone has a cool way of depicting that, please share. I am open to suggestion as to what the right rifle would be. You can also notice that in the second sketch, there is a Harley springer front end lurking in the background on the left, and I didn't draw the Indian rider's whole body, so that's actually Chopper Dude's rear wheel, not Indian Dude's head.
